Day 64/365

Fiery red to invigorate a Tuesday. I'm wearing a plum Ken Done CanTeen scarf with a vintage Fletcher Jones wool skirt. You know you're onto a winner when a skirt has front, square pockets!

Free on Wednesday morning in Melbourne? Go and see Grace McQuilten CEO of the Social Studio talk about their *fantastic* enterprise. And *good* luck for tonight's fashion show, TSS!

Day 63/365

The first piece from the 'Jackie Box' gifted by Ken and Judy Done, and of course everyone at the Ken Done Gallery.
It might not be what you need on a Monday when heading back to work or school, but look at these amazing photos of dearest Sally showcasing a wonderful Ken Done scarf in her holiday in Bali. I love how she can go from using it as a bathing wrap to a more formal garment. Just goes to show why Ken Done scarves are a must for travel!

Day 62/365

Sometimes I even scare myself with how much I can dress like a 1970s librarian. This vintage wool orange and brown orange jacket has a label that reads, 'Exclusively Yours Hartnell Melbourne.' I think this jacket, with the Ken Done glasses and *rad* case might just be exclusively a style of my own. What do you think?

Day 61/365

Imagin(e) a world where a fan has multiple pairs of Ken Done glasses. Oh look - it's happening!

These spectacles are seriously great, and seriously big. I love it! And speaking of love, look at this *fantastic* article about The Social Studio in The Age today. You can see how much they need our love and support - what they are doing is amazing - but their future is not yet secured. Sometimes - just like wearing these glasses - you just have to take the plunge and commit to creating a difference. Please join me on the journey...

Day 60/365 (2)

The Viva La Wombat scarf - let's be honest, which reeks of Ken Done - has been moved to my waist. I'm moving the focus to my vintage George Gross jacket. Sparkle, sparkle, sparkle.

I'm going out on a date night to celebrate the completion of 45,000 words since 2005. That's five whole years! And I realise how long that is because today I'm also celebrating my youngest nephew's 1st birthday - happy birthday Benjamin - a very cute little joey!

Day 60/365

There will be another photo soon, but for now: This is the outfit that I have worn as I have flown from Byron Bay to Sydney this morning, and then straight to the university to hand in my thesis. One MPhil thesis submitted! I'm delusional with excitement and how appropriate that my Ken Done inspired scarf is called Viva La Wombat!! Viva La Finish Studying!

Day 59/365

This day has been 59 days in the making... but it's here now: a double, twin-Done day!

Thanks to David M's donation of this particular Ken Done scarf (styled yesterday), today I could pair in with my own same scarf! Accessory by Done and oh, another accessory by Done!

This fine shot is taken in a pokey motel room in Grafton. Greetings to you all from Northern NSW!

Day 58/365

There's something about the idea of 'twin sets' that makes me think of orange. Perhaps it's because I own this handmade vintage twin set gem. I'm very excited to match the quintessential 60s fabric with a Ken Done donated scarf gift from the talented and delightful David M.

David has been looking left, right and every-which-way for Done of late... and was super happy when he found this in the Blue Mountains. Now much happiness comes to me in its wearing! I wonder how it will give next? If you like it, you better get your bidding fingers ready for later in the year! Done just gives and gives and gives...

Day 57/365

Eames meets Done.
And check out below my latest media article:
There's a primary school junior class out there that now knows a lot about What Ken Be Done, thanks to skills of my nephew, Oliver. What a legend!

PS. The WKBD poll is going well - cast your vote at the bottom of the page - in the grey section. Let your voice on Done be heard!

Day 56/365

All this talk of political 'horse trading' has inspired me to wear my Italian shirt, adorned with stirrups and saddles. Picking up on green, another Ken Done CanTeen scarf.

I found both the shirt and scarf in op shops in Penrith, and what a delight it has been to find gold out west. I'm pretty sure I can smell more Done out there too...

Day 55/365

I'm putting on my game jumper today to rally our spirits for Australian democracy. Vote #1 The Social Studio! Give your preferences to Ken Done vintage gear! Have you taken the WKBD poll? Go to the bottom of this main page... (It's now in the grey section, and easier to read)

Re. outfit: nothing says 'Slacker Sunday' quite like a sloppy jumper paired with a 1980s long denim skirt... And technically I'm not being a slacker - I'm hoping this is my last weekend on my thesis!

*Shucks* - check out this great press I received today in Melbourne's Sunday Age. Oh, and just to clarify: I'm nowhere near 365 outfits... I still need your help with finding, lending and/or donating KD fashion, please!
Speaking of *good fashion* - here is the lovely Corrine spotted and photographed by my mate, Iain. Corrine is in a Jenny Kee Tee... can't get much better than that for a sunny day! Well Done, Corrine! And thanks Iain for your Kee-n eyes!

Day 54/365 (3)

This metaphor is potentially a long-bow, but my outfit today is to symbolise the political clash taking place right now on our Election Day!
You see I've been told all my life that red and pink *clash* and therefore should never be worn together. Clearly however, I take my cues from the fashion of Ken Done. So *snaps* for these KD glasses! These beauties are going to be featured often, often, often :-)
And in fact, these glasses are so popular already that the lovely Kathy Lamp (a woman I just met on a Sydney street, she was visiting from Perth) just had to try them on herself yesterday. I think Kathy looks great!

Thanks for playing WKBD, Kathy! Yet another winner in the *good fashion for good movement*

Day 54/365 Take the WKBD Poll!

And to get you in the election mood today, take the WKBD poll [Poll closed - See Day 67/365].
Happy voting people!

Day 54/365 Stop Press: First Meeting with KEN DONE!

When I open my eyes, I'll really be standing next to Ken Done:
Ka-pow! Me and Ken Done! Yes, I got to meet the man himself yesterday afternoon. Now you can see why I was wearing my Ken Done doona turned into *rad* dress by The Social Studio. And Ken was mighty impressed! I gave him his very own TSS scarf too - he loved it!
But not only that - check out the box of goodies he gifted below. Titled the 'Jackie Box' this was Judy Done's idea... and everyone has been finding vintage Ken Done goodies for me to showcase, and then auction off to raise money for The Social Studio. Just wait 'til you see what's in here!

Things are just beginning to to warm up!

Day 53/365: First Featured Social Studio Ken Done Inspired Outfit!

I can't wait any longer... I need to share this *fantastic* dress made by young people from The Social Studio, using Ken Done fabric we found in an op-shop. All praise to the skills of Enayatullah for making this dress, and to Abuk for the design. Thank You, stylists!

(BTW, you may notice my backdrop change - that was because the fabric of my dress is the same as the usual WKBD backdrop, and I feared that might match just a bit too much! Are we really ready for full Ken Done camouflage?!!)

And below, I present the delight that is Sally's daughters Lilly and Pip. As it is Ken Done inspiration Friday, I feature Pip in Australian designer Maude Wilson's pink jumpsuit, and the kitsch inspired vintage Australia t-shirt showcased by Lilly. Lilly's black eye just makes it all the cooler!

Thanks girls so much... and I hope you carry the love of vintage Australian designers as you grow up too!

Day 52/365

Today is the 19th day of the 8th month. So I'm celebrating today as 1980's day!

Featured is Ken Done red bag**, matched with influential and amazing 1980s Sydney Designer's Studibaker Hawk red jacket. Look closely at my jacket pocket to spot my original Ghostbusters patch too (film made in 1984, naturally).

** This KD bag has a great story behind it. The day before I started this whole WKBD shebang I was in Enmore, Sydney. I was walking past an op-shop and felt the 'Pull of Done' (soon to become a technical shopping term!). I decided that if I found Done in that op-shop it was a sign this project would do *good* and I must do it (because I was very, very nervous, see?). I walk in the store, and straight away spot this mint-condition bag. Then I walk up to the store staff, and they tell me this bag costs $5 dollars. Five dollars! Now that was a good day… and the rest, it's becoming history!

Thank you for being part of this *good fashion for good* movement…

Day 51/365

Art to Wear. Indeed. You know you're dressing in the 80's when a shirt this big is labelled 'M.' Thanks Ken Done, for all the "original designs" I'm getting to showcase!

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Day 50/365

I'm happily being usurped today by what is the most *AMAZING* vintage photo! I present to you Mindi's Mum, Dad and Grandpa in matching Ken Done.

Kudos to Mindi for sending this in! All: please bask in the glory that is Done... What a way to celebrate Day 50!
Me: spots, dots... fish.
It also felt like a great day to celebrate "100% Polyester."

Monday, August 16, 2010

Day 49/365

To facilitate a potential 'Ken Done come down' from the glory of my jumper yesterday, to the KD scarf of today, I've included my vintage Sussan cardigan in this outfit. Just adds a little something extra, I think!

Day 48/365 (2)

News Flash! Here's me with Sally Bruce, my number #1 Fan!

Check out my *excitement* at getting more, fabulous Ken Done goods... Sally found these KD platters in a Tempe op-shop. Made in Italy, Ken Done Italiana. Grazie, grazie Sally!
